Safety Relays

In the world of industrial automation and machinery safety, safety relays serve as pivotal components. Acting as a link between safety devices and the processes they guard, these relays ensures both operators and machinery remain protected from potential hazards. When these relays detect a fault in the connected safety components, they initiate an immediate and controlled shutdown, safeguarding against unforeseen accidents. Across the board, the models of these relays may differ, but the essence of their functionality remains steadfast—monitoring and responding to safety risks.

All safety relays adhere to the stringent Safety category 4 as stipulated by ISO 13849‐1. This denotes the relay’s ability to operate even in the presence of a fault, reaffirming its reliability in critical safety situations. A few relays also conform to the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3, as outlined by IEC 61508/62061, and the Performance level (PL) e as per ISO 13849-1. This further cements their standing as reliable components in safety circuits.

Depending on the specific design, safety relays can have two to three redundant safety switching outputs, aptly referred to as Normally Open (NO) contacts. This redundancy ensures that even if one path fails, the relay can still function, offering an added layer of safety. Certain models feature a non-safety-related output, denoted as an NC auxiliary contact.

The operating voltage for most of these relays is typically around 24 VDC, with permissible variations to cater to different machinery and power conditions. This flexibility in operating voltage ensures adaptability across varied industrial applications. To protect the internal circuitry and enhance their longevity, these relays are housed in enclosures that conform to protection classes like IP20 and IP54. This ensures they remain unfazed by external elements such as dust or water splashes.

Some relays come equipped with adjustment capabilities via DIP switches, allowing for customization based on specific requirements. Specialized models even offer connection points for optical Duo Touch operating elements, extending their usability to more nuanced applications.

The diverse range of safety relay models on offer ensures that various industrial applications, each with its unique challenges and requirements, find a reliable solution in these devices. With safety being paramount, these relays stand as testaments to technological advancements prioritizing human and machinery protection.

Application Features:

  • Safety Standards: Adheres to Safety category 4 (ISO 13849‐1). Additional compliances include SIL 3 (IEC 61508/62061) and PL e (ISO 13849-1).
  • Redundant Outputs: Possesses two to three safety switching outputs (NO) with select models featuring an auxiliary contact (NC).
  • Operating Voltage Flexibility: Primarily operates at 24 VDC ±15%, with some accommodating 24 V AC/DC ±10%.
  • Protection Levels: Ranges from protection class IP20 to IP54, shielding against environmental factors.
  • Configurability: DIP switches in certain models allow for adjustments, tailoring relay operations.
  • Special Connections: Specific models designed for optical Duo Touch operating elements, broadening the range of applications.
